The 11th edition of the WIND and WATER on Water Boat Show and Yachting Festival took place from 28 to 31 July 2016 in the yacht marina “Marina Gdynia”.
Gdynia – Poland’s Sailing Capital
During this year’s edition of the Boat Show in Gdynia we saw almost 200 yachts and boats from Polish and foreign yachtyards, including many debuts. The yachts and boats presented at the Boat Show included both vessels worth several thousand zlotys and large luxurious boats worth millions. In the tent halls positioned on the waterside, the visitors could find expositions of companies offering sailing and motorboat accessories, navigation, safety and rescue equipment, as well as tourist and sports clothing. Also, there were organizers of charters and races as well as representatives of professional media. In total, 138 companies presented their offers at the Boat Show.
At its stand, for the first time in Poland the Delphia Yachts yachtyard presented the latest model of the sailing yacht Delphia 46 Deck Saloon – a comfortable, luxurious vessel for tourism in all waters. The second sailing yacht at the Delphia Yachts stand was the 12-metre-long Maxi 1200, designed by Pelle Petterson – a famous sailor, America’s Cup skipper, Olympic medallist and designer. Furthermore, visitors to the marina in Gdynia had the opportunity to see this year’s motorboat premiere: the Nautika 1150 Voyage, first presented at the WIND and WATER Boat Show in Warsaw.
Atsea presented a total of five vessels, including the imposing Impression 50, a very comfortable 15-metre-long tourist yacht. Astex Łodzie, the exclusive importer and distributor of the motorboats and yachts Regal and Formula, presented the revolutionary Regal 26 Express (Polish premiere) and the modern Regal 2500 Bowrider.
The visitors to this year’s Boat Show were captivated by the stand of the Polish yachtyard Galeon, where the company presented as many as 10 luxurious motorboats. Two new constructions were presented at the stand of Parker Poland, a rising star in European markets: the Parker 690 DC and the Askeladden P77 Weekend, displayed in Poland for the first time at the Boat Show in Warsaw.
At the stand of Dobre Yachty, the Polish representative of the French yacht brand Jeanneau, the company presented, among other boats, the latest model of the Merry Fisher 795 yacht, a compact vessel ideal for various types of cruises and for tourism. At the stand of Taurus Sea Power, in turn, those who love speed could find the latest models of Sea-Doo jet skis as well as motorboats by Four Winns Boats, Scarab Boats and Glastron Boats.
Meetings and shows
The WIND and WATER Boat Show in Gdynia is not just about what the exhibitors want to present to the public – it also includes many other attractions related to water sports. The visitors had the opportunity to watch rescue shows and presentations of various water sports in the marina. On the first day of the Boat Show there was a meeting with the Guest of Honour of this year’s event – President Bronisław Komorowski, during which the President spoke about his own experiences on water and his great passion for sailing.
Enthusiasts of canoeing met with Aleksander Doba, an extraordinary man who crossed the Atlantic Ocean in a canoe twice; he eagerly shared stories about his past voyages and future plans. On Saturday, Captain Krzysztof Baranowski, who has sailed nearly a quarter million miles on various waters, the author of the idea behind the ships Pogoria and Fryderyk Chopin and the initiator of their construction, the founder of the “School under Sails”, talked about his sailing adventures.
Awards and distinctions
For the seventh time already, the WIND and WATER on Water Boat Show included the awarding ceremony of the President of the City of Gdynia Award concluding the GDYNIA YACHT DESIGN competition, announced specifically for this event. The winners had been selected by a jury composed of: Hanna Bakuła – a painter, feature writer and book author; Tadeusz Jelec – Jaguar’s design manager; Bartosz Piotrowski – Doctor of Art , a designer specialising in rolling stock and chief designer of PESA; Leszek Gonciarz – a designer of sailing vessels; and Stanisław Iwiński from the motorboat department of “Żagle”. After long deliberations, the jury made its decision:
- The title of the Most Beautiful Sailing Yacht was awarded to Delphia 46 DS (deck salon) by Delphia Yachts;
- The title of the Most Beautiful Motor Yacht was awarded to Draco 27 RS by Skyboat;
- The honourable mention for a motor yacht was awarded to Swift Trawler 30 by Power Boats Poland.
Furthermore, the Boat Show featured the announcement of the nominations in the competition “Jacht Roku w Polsce – Polish Yacht of the Year 2017”, organized by the water sports magazine “Żagle”.
The next edition of WIND and WATER on Water Boat Show, will take place on 27–30 July 2017. We hope to see you there!
